Rock County Children's Museum: Progress Update on New Building

The Rock County Children's Museum is making significant strides in its construction project, with several milestones achieved and more on the horizon.

After the demolition of the original 1950s addition, the museum is now ready for the new addition. Structural steel for this expansion is scheduled to be set in November, marking a crucial step forward in the building process.

The Let's PLAY Together Capital Campaign, led by the Rock County Community Foundation, successfully raised over $14 million in pledges and donations, wrapping up in August 2025. This fundraising effort has been instrumental in financing the museum's new building, which began construction in June.

Design plans for the exhibits within the children's museum are expected to be finalised within 30 days. The museum is collaborating with two exhibit fabricators, Boss Display and Dimensional Innovations, to create interactive experiences that will engage and inspire young minds.

Steel erection for the new addition is anticipated to take about a month to complete. Concrete footings and foundations for the new building addition will be formed and poured over the next couple of months. A 160-foot crawler crane, provided by JP Cullen, has been added to the site to aid in this process.

The Rock County Children's Museum's mission is to provide a strong and sustainable foundation for every child's curiosity. This mission requires generous community support, as stated by museum director, Anderson. Every gift to the museum fuels its daily work, ensuring that exhibits remain vibrant, programs remain accessible, and the museum's doors remain open to families from all backgrounds.

As the museum transitions to more annual operations for fundraising, it invites everyone who believes in building a brighter future for children to invest in the joy and learning made possible at the museum. The museum's exhibits, programs, and accessibility all depend on community support.

Hazardous material abatement has already occurred on the site, ensuring a safe environment for construction and future visitors.

Anderson remains optimistic about the museum's opening date, expressing confidence that the museum will open in late 2026. The progress made so far indicates that this timeline is achievable, and the community can look forward to the museum's grand opening with anticipation.
