A New Commuter Hub Opens in Dublin: Woodbrook DART Station

The long-awaited Woodbrook DART station officially opened its doors on August 10, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Ireland's public transport network. Located between Bray and Shankill in south Dublin, this modern station serves both existing communities and new developments in Woodbrook and Shanganagh.

With up to 191 DART services available each weekday, the station provides frequent electric rail connections, reducing travel times to key city centre stations to approximately 40 minutes. The station features two 174-metre platforms equipped with shelters, seating, lighting, customer information systems, and a new pedestrian bridge with ramped and stepped access.

The station supports a major residential project, with up to 2,300 new homes planned in Woodbrook, designated as a ‘Future Development Area’ in the Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Development Plan. This integration of transport planning with land use aims to encourage sustainable travel and reduce reliance on private cars, making the expanding community more eco-friendly.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Iarnród Éireann's Head of Communications, Barry Kenny, highlighted the importance of the station, stating, "The opening of Woodbrook Station is a positive delivery of public transport planning, demonstrating our commitment to delivering public transport as the communities in the area develop and grow."

Mr. Kenny also acknowledged the need for more capacity on the DART infrastructure overall, emphasizing that Woodbrook Station is part of a broader investment by Iarnród Éireann in doubling the capacity in the Greater Dublin Area. The project is funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority, aligning with Ireland’s climate action goals and sustainable transport policies.

Several new housing developments are being built in the vicinity of Woodbrook Station, which will be "directly served" by the DART station. For more information about Woodbrook Station, visit this link.

Woodbrook Station is the 147th station on Ireland’s national rail network, reflecting ongoing investment in expanding and modernizing public transport in the Dublin area. This new addition to the network is set to improve the quality of life for residents in the area and contribute to a more sustainable and connected future for Dublin commuters.

The Woodbrook DART station, a significant addition to Ireland's public transport network, is expected to foster growth in the adjacent residential developments, offering direct access to the 2,300 new homes in Woodbrook. By improving transportation within the community, this station is set to bridge the industry and finance sectors by encouraging sustainable investment and eco-friendly development.
