Over 694,000 units of Ford's Bronco Sport and Escape models are being voluntarily recalled by the automaker
Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of certain 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape vehicles equipped with 1.5-liter engines. The recall, which affects over 694,000 vehicles, is due to a potential issue with the fuel injector that may crack and leak, posing a significant safety risk.
The issue, which has been under investigation since 2022 by Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, could lead to a fuel leak inside the engine compartment. This leak can cause fuel to accumulate near hot surfaces in the exhaust and turbo systems, increasing the risk of a fire under the hood.
The recall expands on previous ones issued in November 2022 and March 2024, and Ford is developing a new remedy to address this issue. In the meantime, a safety risk letter will be mailed to vehicle owners on Aug. 18, informing them about the potential danger and providing an interim solution. A final remedy for the recall is yet to be announced, and a second letter will be sent once the final remedy is available.
All affected vehicles are equipped with Ford's turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engines. The recall does not affect all vehicles across the mentioned years but is limited to specific models within those years that have the 1.5L engine. It's worth noting that six of the affected vehicles did not have updated engine control software, which is part of the recall.
Ford customer service can be contacted at 1-866-436-7332 for recall information (reference number 25S76). Owners are advised to follow the instructions provided in the safety risk letter and the subsequent recall letter to ensure the safety of their vehicles.
