Pig farm "Krasnoyarskiy" found itself under a criminal investigation for emissions.

In the Krasnoyarsk region, the criminal court has charged AO "Svinokomplex Krasnoyarskiy" with environmental pollution. Established in 2012 next to the village of Bolshaya MurtA, this pig farm's operations have been a persistent thorn in the side of the pristine environment.

The company, part of the Tomsk holding "SIBAGRO," specializes in livestock breeding and meat processing. For years in the vicinity of the village, "an overwhelming stench of animal activity" has been the norm, as reported by the local prosecutor's office.

Inspections revealed that the feeding and reproductive units of the pig farm operate without gas purification systems.

To make matters worse, the pig farm purchased an incinerator for burning deceased pig remains in August 2023, adding to the environmental burden. However, the relevant environment ministry was not informed about the activation of the polluting equipment.

Sampling conducted by the ministry's laboratory at the prosecutor's request showed that within a 1-kilometer radius of the sanitary-protective zone, there were:

  • Ammonia levels twice the permissible limit,
  • Benzene levels 1.35 times the limit,
  • Suspended particulate matter 1.12 times the limit.

Experts, taking into account the wind direction and speed, as well as the industrial nature of the pollutants, established a correlation between the farm's emissions and air contamination.

As a result, a lawsuit was filed against the farm for addressing environmental violations. Through the prosecutor's order, the farm was fined 10,000 rubles for violating rules protecting atmospheric air. In addition, a criminal case was initiated regarding air pollution. Its investigation is currently under the control of the prosecutor's office.

Here's a picture from the regional prosecutor's office.

According to the enrichment data, the charges against AO "Svinokomplex Krasnoyarskiy" are due to widespread environmental damage caused by the farm's failure to comply with environmental regulations. This non-compliance includes unlawful waste disposal and pollutant emission beyond permitted levels, which have adversely impacted the local ecosystem and potentially posed health risks to nearby communities. The criminal case aims to hold the company accountable for environmental offences, ensure remediation of the damage caused, and enforce stricter adherence to environmental laws to prevent future violations.

  1. The criminal charges against AO "Svinokomplex Krasnoyarskiy" highlight the company's breach of environmental regulations in the field of environmental-science, specifically in the pollution of the air and soil.
  2. The ongoing investigation into AO "Svinokomplex Krasnoyarskiy" under the criminal case includes accusations of non-compliance with industry standards related to waste disposal and emissions, which have implications for both the environment and public health.
  3. The financial repercussions for AO "Svinokomplex Krasnoyarskiy's environmental offenses involve not only the criminal penalties but also possible civil liabilities, as well as the potential for investments in environmental-science and clean energy to address the damages caused and prevent future incidents.
