Tesla Skips IAA Mobility Event in Munich, Reasons Unclear

Tesla has decided not to participate in the 2025 IAA Mobility event in Munich, as confirmed by the event organizer, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA)[1]. The reasons behind Tesla’s decision are currently unknown.

The IAA Mobility show is expected to be a significant event, featuring big reveals from leading European automakers like BMW and Mercedes, who are showcasing advanced electric vehicle models and innovative technologies[2][3][4]. Tesla’s absence is notable given its prominence in the EV market, but the sources do not provide a direct explanation for skipping the event.

This year's IAA event is scheduled to take place for the third time in Munich, following events in 2023 and 2021. Despite the increase in participation and registration, Tesla has decided not to attend this year's event[1].

In recent years, Tesla has seen a decline in market share and popularity in Europe and Germany. This is a departure from Tesla's leading position in new electric vehicle registrations in Germany a few years ago[5]. In the first seven months of this year, Tesla ranked ninth in new electric vehicle registrations in Germany[6].

It's worth noting that the IAA Mobility event in Munich has seen protests in the past, although they were smaller in scale in 2023 compared to the inaugural Munich event. However, the connection between Tesla’s decision not to attend and recent protests or incidents, such as Elon Musk’s political activities or Tesla vehicles being set on fire, is currently unclear[7].

The IAA reported an increase in booked exhibition space and growing international participation in early July[8]. The event is scheduled to start in under a month. In the meantime, the automotive world eagerly awaits an official statement from Tesla regarding their decision not to attend the IAA Mobility event in Munich this year.
