Frankfurt-Offenbach S-Bahn Modernization: April 28 to July 4

Are you ready for some major changes coming to the S-Bahn lines in the Rhine-Main region? From April 28 to July 4, 2025, Deutsche Bahn will invest around 180 million euros in modernizing S-Bahn infrastructure and fire protection between Frankfurt-Mühlberg and Offenbach Ost. Buckle up, because there will be some detours ahead!

🚧 Night and weekend work 🚧

The renovation work will kick off during the nights and extended weekends, starting April 28. Over 15 kilometers of tracks, several switches, and emergency lighting will be updated in the tunnel, and Offenbach Ost station will undergo a thorough makeover. This means many S-Bahn trains will deviate from their usual routes, with changes in line routing and station stops.

🚄 S-Bahn line changes

Travelers should be aware of the following changes for lines S1, S2, S8, and S9:

  • S1: Only service between Wiesbaden Hbf and Frankfurt Süd (via Hauptbahnhof) and between Offenbach Hbf and Rödermark-Ober Roden.
  • S2: Service between Niedernhausen and Frankfurt Hbf and additional service between Offenbach Ost and Dietzenbach.
  • S8: Rerouted via Frankfurt Süd and Offenbach Hbf, with service between Wiesbaden Hbf and Hanau Hbf.
  • S9: Service only between Wiesbaden Hbf and Frankfurt Hbf.

Additionally, stations Frankfurt-Mühlberg, Offenbach-Kaiserlei, Ledermuseum, and Offenbach-Marktplatz will not be accessible during this time. Passengers can use Ostendstraße station (Frankfurt) or Offenbach Ost as an alternate.

🚌 Bus replacement service

A comprehensive bus replacement service will be in place between Frankfurt and Offenbach. Four lines will operate according to fixed schedules:

  1. Offenbach Ost to Konstablerwache via all affected stations.
  2. Offenbach Hbf to Konstablerwache via Kaiserlei and Ostendstraße.
  3. Offenbach Ost to Frankfurt Süd with stops in Offenbach Hbf, Kaiserlei, and Mühlberg.
  4. Offenbach Ost to Frankfurt Airport via Mühlberg and Frankfurt Süd.

🚧 Offenbach-Hanau line closure at the beginning of May

From April 30, 21:20 to May 5, 4:20, the Offenbach Ost - Hanau Hbf connection will also be closed for work on tracks and switches. During this time, S1 and S2 will run only every 30 minutes, and S8 and S9 will end at Frankfurt Hbf or Offenbach Ost. A bus replacement service will also be implemented for this period.
