In an effort to gather valuable insights about everyday mobility, the Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden) is reaching out to residents of Neuss, inviting them to participate in the "Mobility in Cities - SrV" survey. This survey is part of a long-discussed "transport turnaround" initiative, aiming to support sustainable transport planning in Neuss and other cities across Germany.

The SrV (System of Representative Transport Surveys) project, which has been running since 1972, is conducted by the Leipzig-based institute O.trend GmbH. It is currently being carried out in over 500 cities and communities across Germany, with a total of more than 270,000 people being surveyed, including Neuss residents.

The survey asks participants about the means of transport they use for their daily journeys and the distances they cover. The data collected will be anonymized and passed on to TU Dresden for evaluation, providing city-specific insights for Neuss, as well as trends across cities.

The insights gained from the survey will be instrumental in optimizing transport planning and policies in Neuss. By understanding how residents use different modes of transport, city planners can work towards reducing car dependency and promoting alternatives like public transport, cycling, and walking. The survey also takes into account the mobility of certain groups, such as seniors or children, and the use of sharing services.

The anonymized evaluation of the survey will offer valuable data-driven insights that help city planners develop more efficient, environmentally friendly, and user-oriented mobility solutions tailored to local conditions. These insights can inform measures such as improving public transport services, expanding active travel infrastructure, and integrating new mobility offers like car-sharing programs.

The city administration and TU Dresden are urging all selected households to participate in the survey, which can be done by phone or online. By mid-June, over 87,000 people have already participated nationwide.

Previous studies, such as the SrV 2023 study conducted by TU Dresden in the city of Jena, have shown a decline in daily car journeys, indicating a shift towards sustainable transport modes influenced by such research. Neuss likely benefits similarly by using SrV data to craft transport strategies that better meet residents' needs and environmental goals.

The "Mobility in Cities - SrV" project serves as a crucial tool in transport planning to enhance urban mobility across German municipalities by providing comprehensive behavioural data and analyses that guide sustainable transport development. 1. The "Mobility in Cities - SrV" survey, being conducted by TU Dresden in partnership with the city of Neuss, aims to collect data about the means of transportation used by residents for their daily journeys, including finance, public-transit, and transportation.
  2. By analyzing the data collected from the SrV survey, city planners in Neuss can gain valuable insights to optimize their transport planning and policies, potentially leading to a reduction in car dependency and a promotion of alternative modes of transport such as public finance, transportation, and active travel like cycling and walking.
