Rail Travelers Group Puts Forward Suggestion for New Head of Railway Administration

In the ever-evolving landscape of the German Railway (Deutsche Bahn), the search for a successor to current CEO Richard Lutz has become a topic of significant interest. Lutz's contract is set to expire prematurely, leaving the company in need of new leadership.

One potential candidate suggested by Lukas Iffländer, the federal chairman of Pro Bahn, is Anna-Theresa Korbutt, the managing director of the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV). However, Korbutt has yet to confirm or deny the proposal.

Korbutt, in a show of appreciation, praised the high level of performance from the employees of Deutsche Bahn and their partners, stating that the German Railway has a great perspective. Meanwhile, Iffländer has emphasised the need to break up stagnant structures within the railway sector, and the importance of the new CEO or CEO having a good team around them to facilitate this change.

Iffländer also welcomed the early departure of Lutz as a necessary signal for a break with previous approaches. He further stated that people who block innovative approaches within the company need to be removed to ensure progress.

As the search for a successor continues, the German government's emphasis on restructuring and modernising the transport infrastructure suggests that the next leader will need to prioritise these areas to align with the government's goals. Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder has expressed a vision for a more punctual, safer, cleaner, faster, leaner, more effective, and economical railway.

Schnieder has announced a new strategy for the crisis-ridden railway system in Germany for September 22, aiming to clarify the succession question. Iffländer, however, has suggested that there could be an internal solution for the succession of Lutz.

It is estimated that approximately 7 million customers rely on Deutsche Bahn daily, making the appointment of a capable and visionary leader all the more crucial. The operational and financial crisis of the company, as highlighted by Iffländer, is a pressing concern that the new CEO will need to address in the short term.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the succession, Korbutt acknowledged the great work being done by the employees of Deutsche Bahn and their partners, despite challenging conditions. The search for a successor who can implement the desired changes and steer the company towards a brighter future is expected to continue until a suitable candidate is found.
