Reaching a Remarkable Milestone: BOS Ice Tea hits 40,000 trees planted through their website
In a commendable move towards corporate social responsibility, BOS Ice Tea has partnered with the non-profit organization Greenpop for over 15 years, aiming to plant 40,000 trees across South Africa and Malawi. This initiative, ongoing since 2010, has significant long-term ecological and social impacts.
The partnership links tree planting directly to product sales. For every 2,000 units of BOS Ice Tea sold, one tree is planted, thereby increasing public involvement and raising environmental consciousness among consumers. This approach also provides economic incentives, such as employment opportunities in tree planting and maintenance, for the local communities involved.
The reforestation efforts have contributed to the restoration of approximately 40 hectares of land, helping to mitigate the urban heat island effect, foster a stronger sense of community, and protect various biodiversity, including Cape Parrots, Honey Badgers, and Cape Leopards.
Ecologically, the initiative has resulted in reforestation, enhanced biodiversity, carbon capture, soil stabilization, and watershed protection. Socially, it has empowered communities, provided environmental education, created green jobs, and encouraged the adoption of sustainable practices.
The 40,000 trees planted are expected to absorb an estimated 8,000 tonnes of CO2 over a 20-year period, contributing to the fight against climate change in these regions. The BOS-sponsored forests are located in South Africa and Malawi, areas that have benefited from the project's social components, such as urban greening projects, community nurseries, and beekeeping training for over 300 people.
The Foundation NPC, the non-profit organization managing this project, is a registered organisation with a blog section, contact information, a team page, and downloadable assets on their website. They also publish annual reports and have a frequently asked questions section. There's a section for getting involved, which includes activating a company, booking a planting day, volunteering & internship opportunities, and vacancies.
By choosing BOS Ice Tea, consumers are not only quenching their thirst but also contributing to a greener future for southern Africa. For more information or to get involved, visit the Foundation NPC's website.
