Redevelopment Work Kicks Off for Future Centre: Summer Holiday Closure on Delitzscher Straße at Riebeckplatz

In a significant move towards the sustainable development of Halle on the Saale, the city is set to expand its power and district heating infrastructure on Delitzscher Straße. This expansion, aimed at securing and optimizing the future energy supply for the Future Center and adjacent network areas, will provide residents with a reliable, environmentally friendly, and future-proof energy supply.

The project, spearheaded by Energy Supply Halle Netz GmbH on behalf of EVH GmbH, both companies of the Stadtwerke Halle group, involves several key components. The primary goal is to enhance the existing power and district heating infrastructure, ensuring a reliable and efficient supply of electricity and heat to the area.

The project could include the replacement or upgrade of aging power lines and transformers, the expansion of district heating networks to cover more residential and commercial areas, and the integration of smart grid technologies to optimize energy distribution and consumption. Advanced materials and technologies, such as insulated pipes for district heating to reduce energy loss, and smart grid systems to monitor and manage energy distribution efficiently, will also be utilized.

The expansion is expected to have a positive impact on the city's energy profile, with potential improvements in energy efficiency and a reduction in energy loss. The project would also need to comply with environmental regulations, possibly including measures to reduce emissions and protect local ecosystems.

During the construction phase, which is scheduled to take place from June 30 to August 8, 2025, traffic on Delitzscher Straße will be fully closed. Detours for car traffic and buses will be signposted to ensure smooth navigation. Tram traffic will not be affected during the construction work.

Residents and stakeholders can expect effective communication throughout the project, with regular updates, public meetings, and transparent project management to address concerns and provide information on the project's progress and benefits.

It's worth noting that district heating expansion in Halle aims to reduce CO2 emissions and provide a reliable, environmentally friendly, and future-proof energy supply that meets all current and future regulatory requirements for a climate-neutral heat supply. The city of Halle (Saale) will also be conducting preparatory work for the redesign of Riebeckplatz from June 30, 2025, to approximately August 8, 2025.

The district heating expansion on Delitzscher Straße between Riebeckplatz and Hauptbahnhof is just one part of a larger strategy to improve energy efficiency and security throughout the city. Further district heating expansion areas are shown in the heat atlas, indicating a commitment to a sustainable and efficient energy future for Halle. District heating is a key component of the heat transition, significantly contributing to reducing CO2 emissions.

  1. To ensure a sustainable future for Halle, the expansion project on Delitzscher Straße, driven by Energy Supply Halle Netz GmbH and EVH GmbH, focuses on the integration of renewable-energy sources in district heating infrastructure.
  2. As part of this expansion, advanced environmental-science solutions, like smart grid technologies and insulated pipes for heat distribution, will be implemented to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy loss.
  3. This investment in the city's infrastructure could potentially lead to financial benefits, as it contributes to the industry's shift towards climate-change mitigation with lower CO2 emissions and a more sustainable energy supply.
  4. In addition to the Delitzscher Straße project, the city of Halle (Saale) is also planning further district heating expansion areas, following a larger strategy aimed at optimizing energy security and efficiency throughout the city and aiding in the transition towards a climate-neutral environment.
