Reduced petrol price by Rs 7.54, increased diesel price by Rs 1.48 per liter, according to government announcement

In a recent development, the federal government of Pakistan has announced changes to the prices of petrol and diesel, effective from August 1, 2025.

The price of petrol (MS) has seen a significant decrease of Rs 7.54 per litre, dropping from Rs 272.15 to Rs 264.61. This reduction is expected to provide relief for consumers using petrol-powered vehicles.

On the other hand, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has witnessed a slight increase. The new price, as stated in the last fortnightly review, is Rs 285.83 per litre, which is Rs 1.48 higher than the previous price of Rs 284.35 per litre. This increase may impact transportation and food prices due to diesel's use in commercial vehicles and agriculture.

These price adjustments follow a previous fortnight where both petrol and diesel prices had risen significantly. The price changes are part of the government's routine fortnightly review and are influenced by global oil market trends and currency fluctuations.

Here's a breakdown of the price changes:

| Product | Price Before August 1 | Price From August 1 | Change | |---------------------|----------------------|--------------------|-----------------| | Petrol (MS) | Rs 272.15 | Rs 264.61 | -Rs 7.54 | | High-Speed Diesel(HSD)| Rs 284.35 | Rs 285.83 | +Rs 1.48 |

It's important to note that these adjustments will remain effective for the next 15 days. The government had initially anticipated more substantial decreases for petrol and diesel, but the finalized adjustments reported were a Rs 7.54 petrol decrease and a Rs 1.48 diesel increase.

In the last fortnightly review, the government increased the price of high-speed diesel by Rs 11.37 per litre, making the new price Rs 284.35 per litre. Similarly, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 5.36 per litre, making the new price Rs 272.15 per litre.

  1. The changes in petrol and diesel prices, influenced by global oil market trends and currency fluctuations, also have a significant impact on the finance sector, especially the energy industry, as adjustments like these can impact consumer spending and overall economic growth.
  2. As a result of the government's routine fortnightly review, the index of energy prices in the industry may see a fluctuation, with the recent decrease in petrol prices potentially causing a dip, and the increase in diesel prices possibly leading to a rise, depending on the ripple effects throughout the industry and economy.
