ClearBank Appoints David Samper as Group CFO

ClearBank, the UK-based provider of embedded banking and real-time clearing infrastructure, has appointed David Samper as its new Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With over 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, Samper brings a wealth of expertise in retail and commercial banking, mergers and acquisitions, strategic finance, and regulatory engagement.

Samper's impressive career includes roles at both private and publicly listed institutions in the UK and internationally. Before joining ClearBank, he served as Group CFO at Newcastle Building Society, where he led a growth strategy that doubled the Society's assets and oversaw the merger with Manchester Building Society. Samper also held senior finance positions at Sainsbury’s Bank and NatWest Group.

ClearBank's CEO, Mark Fairless, expressed enthusiasm about Samper joining the team. "David's extensive experience in the financial services sector will be invaluable as we continue to grow and expand our operations, both in the UK and abroad," Fairless said.

Samper looks forward to supporting ClearBank's next phase of growth, particularly in light of its recent European expansion. ClearBank has recently been awarded a Credit Institution License from the European Central Bank, under the supervision of De Nederlandsche Bank, marking a critical milestone for its international growth strategy. Over the past year, ClearBank has expanded into 15 European markets, with group fee-based income rising 63% to £53.3 million in 2024.

ClearBank serves a range of notable clients including Revolut, Tide, Chip, TrueLayer, Coinbase, Raisin, and Airwallex. Samper commented on ClearBank's reputation for technological innovation, best-in-class regulatory compliance, and strong growth strategy. "I am excited to join ClearBank at such a pivotal time in its growth and to contribute to its continued success," Samper said.

The UK business of ClearBank reported a pre-tax profit for the second consecutive year. With Samper's appointment as CFO, ClearBank is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory and to capitalise on the opportunities presented by its international expansion.
