Remnants of 'Knödelexpress' Endure in Prague
The rail travel between Prague and Berlin is set for an upgrade, as Czech Railways prepares to introduce new Comfort-Jet trains on the popular route. The switch to these modern trains will take place on July 26.
The departure times from Prague Main Station for these trains are 10:28, 16:28, and 20:28 respectively, while the arrival times in Berlin are scheduled for 14:43, 20:43, and 00:57 respectively. The new Comfort-Jet trains can accommodate around 100 more passengers and can reach speeds of up to 230 km/h, making for a faster and more comfortable journey.
Michal Krapinec, the head of Czech Railways, hinted at the continuation of a familiar service in a press release. A popular service that will continue is the traditional dining cars, which will not be scrapped but will be used on Czech domestic connections in the future. The original dining cars will continue to operate on three train pairs: EC 378, EC 170, and EC 258, both on the Prague-Berlin route and on the return journey from Berlin.
The EuroCity connection EC 172 / 173 Hungaria, composed of Hungarian carriages, will continue to run. However, the "Knödel Express" train service between Prague and Berlin is ending. The original dining cars from the Knödel Express will continue to run on some specific EuroCity trains on the Prague-Berlin route, as mentioned above.
The existing carriages will be replaced by the Comfort-Jet trains, and these new trains can also accommodate more bicycles, making them a practical choice for cycling enthusiasts. The other trains on the Prague-Berlin route will also be operated by Comfort-Jets, ensuring a consistent level of comfort and speed for passengers.
This update promises to enhance the travel experience for passengers on the Prague-Berlin route, offering a faster, more comfortable, and more practical journey.
The upgrade in rail travel between Prague and Berlin extends beyond the Comfort-Jet trains, as traditional dining cars will continue to operate on certain EuroCity trains. This includes the EC 378, EC 170, and EC 258 train pairs. The automotive industry might also benefit from this update, as more bicycles can now be accommodated on the Comfort-Jet trains. Additionally, the finance sector could see a boost due to increased passenger capacity on the public-transit system, as more individuals and businesses are likely to choose train travel over other modes of transportation.
