Hall & Oates Business Dispute Resolved Through Confidential Arbitration

After months of legal proceedings, the business dispute between music legends Daryl Hall and John Oates has been resolved through private arbitration. The terms and details of the arbitration remain confidential and have not been publicly disclosed.

The dispute originated in November 2023 when Daryl Hall sued John Oates to block Oates' planned sale of his stake in their joint venture, Whole Oats Enterprises LLP (WOE), to Primary Wave Music. WOE controls valuable intellectual property, including trademarks, name-and-likeness rights, record royalties, and digital assets tied to Hall & Oates.

A judge initially issued a temporary restraining order in late 2023, halting the sale pending arbitration. The arbitration process took place in early November 2023, with both parties presenting their cases. Robb Harvey, an attorney for Daryl Hall, and representatives for John Oates declined to comment on the arbitration outcome.

In his own declaration, John Oates expressed disappointment with Hall's words and denied the accusations that he went behind Hall's back and breached their agreement. However, the details of the arbitration outcome have not been revealed.

Last year, John Oates told The Associated Press that he has had "no communication" with Hall and declined to discuss the legal proceedings. Daryl Hall, in his scathing account of the relationship during arbitration, expressed that he is used to disappointments and betrayals in his life. He told The Times in February that the ship has sailed on mending the pair's relationship, stating that the ship has gone to the bottom of the ocean.

The resolution was reached privately, and a court filing was made to dismiss the case. Neither party has disclosed whether the sale to Primary Wave proceeded, or any changes to ownership stakes, financial terms, or other details resulting from the arbitration. The reporting indicates that the resolution was entirely private.

Despite resolving their legal dispute, the personal relationship appears ended as well; both performers stated they do not plan to reunite musically. The exact outcome and consequences of the arbitration remain private, but the legal dispute between Hall and Oates is now officially over.
