Revamped Penneys on O'Connell Street receives €5 million renovation
Penneys supersized its landmark O'Connell Street store in Dublin city center, spending a whopping €5m on a major renovation. This marks the store's biggest makeover in over a decade and employs a crowd of 250 people.
Situated on a 52,400-square-foot expanse, the altered layout of the store is tailored to optimize every step of the customer's journey. With a brighter, more inviting ambiance, the store features revitalized panelling, refurbished signage, and energy-efficient LED lighting. To top it off, it boasts wider walkways for smoother navigation through the store[1][3].
Other noticeable changes include the relocation of the kidswear department to the first floor, where it now enjoys a larger space. In addition, the home department has expanded by reclaiming approximately 1,217 square feet from relocated fitting rooms and service areas, now found on the lower ground floor[1].
This facelift for the O'Connell Street store is yet another milestone in Penneys owner Primark's ongoing €250 million investment program in Ireland. Numerous regional stores across the country have already received updates, and further renovations are set for Penneys stores in Portlaoise, Limerick, and Ennis in the upcoming months[2].
Piers Cunningham, Store Manager of Penneys O'Connell Street, highlights that Penneys has been an integral part of Dublin's city center fabric for nearly 50 years and has been a landmark on O'Connell Street since 1992[2]. He explains that the investment is more than just a new paint job, but a commitment to Penneys' customers, staff, and the future of retail in Dublin[2].
Richard Guiney, CEO of Dublin Town, praises the Penneys brand for its longstanding association with Dublin's northern retail core. He views the investment as a welcoming show of dedication and believes it leads the way for the district re-establishing itself as a premier shopping destination[1][2]. He remains hopeful that this positive trend can grow stronger as Dublin takes steps to strengthen its core city center and deliver the city experience that local residents desire.
The renovation of Penneys' O'Connell Street store, costing €5m, is not only an investment in the retail industry but also a significant contribution to the city's finance sector, as it generates revenue and employment for 250 people. As part of Primark's €250 million investment program in Ireland, this revamp marks Penneys' commitment to the future of retail business in Dublin, attracting more customers and boosting the retail sector in the city.
