Investigating the financial wealth of ex-prime minister Rishi Sunak, post his defeat in the 2024 general election against Keir Starmer, is our focus.

Rishi Sunak's total wealth or assets' value.

Rishi Sunak, the recent appointee to the position of prime minister, boasts an impressive net worth that makes him the wealthiest individual ever to occupy 10 Downing Street.

According to the The Sunday Times Rich List 2025, Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, possess a combined fortune of £640 million. This puts them among the world's wealthiest people and sees their net worth align with that of King Charles III.

Sunak's wife, Murty, a significant contributor to their combined wealth, amassed her fortune primarily through shareholdings in Infosys, an Indian IT company founded by her father, N. R. Narayana Murthy, in 1981. Murty holds a 0.93% stake in the company, which has a market capitalization of approximately £57 billion.

Murty's earnings from dividends surpassed £7.5 million in the latest annual report, adding to the £73+ million she had already earned over the years. Murty's taxes have occasionally been the subject of debate due to her non-dom status, which allowed her to avoid paying UK tax on Infosys dividends until recently.

While Murty's wealth dwarfs that of Sunak's previous earnings, Sunak also amassed substantial financial gains during his career in investment banking. He began his career as an analyst for Goldman Sachs before earning an MBA from Stanford University and fulfilling roles at various investment firms, including The Children's Investment Fund Management and Theleme Partners.

Following his political career, Sunak now holds unpaid roles at Oxford University's Blavatnik School of Government and the Hoover Institution think tank at Stanford University. He remains an MP for his constituency of Richmond and Northallerton, despite losing the general election to Sir Keir Starmer in 2024. Claims that Sunak might return to California after leaving Downing Street were swiftly dismissed by himself at the G20 summit.

Murty now serves as a trustee at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The Sunak family has extensive property holdings, including a main residence in Kensington worth £7 million, a flat on Old Brompton Road, a £1.5 million Georgian manor house in North Yorkshire, and a £5.5 million penthouse in Santa Monica, California.

Sunak may also receive financial support of up to £115,000 per year for any administration costs due to his position as a former UK prime minister, thanks to the Public Duty Costs Allowance.

The Sunday Times reports that Sunak and Murty's wealth falls only short of some of the richest individuals on the planet, but does not match that of the highest net worth families, such as the Hinduja family, who are worth approximately £35.3 billion in the UK. Meanwhile, the net worths of King Charles III and the Sunak-Murty family remain close in comparison.
