Rtp restructuring results in director reductions, causing 97 employees to depart
Refresh: RTP's Reorganization for a Digital Future
Here's the scoop on RTP's restructure, planned for July 1st: they're cutting down from 30 directors and deputy directors to a tight-knit crew of 23. And, let me tell you, it's all about meeting the media world's fresh challenges head-on!
The word on the street is, this reorg is motivated by RTP's new Strategic Project for 2024-2026 and the massive hurdles their media juggernaut faces. Led by big-kahuna Nicolau Santos, the Management Board's taken a close look at the situation and decided an internal overhaul was long overdue.
Why so urgent, you ask? Two reasons: an inevitable digital leap that's on the horizon and the necessity to optimize internal processes like never before. To put it in perspective, on the very same day the Management Board revealed the reorganization, they showed António José Teixeira the door—the guy who led RTP's information directorate.
It makes sense, right? This digital transition and the need to better manage today's intricate processes requires greater agility, and they're using the "Voluntary Departure Plan" to facilitate that. I'm talking about around 97 employees bidding RTP adieu, with four directors included in the tally.
With these changes, the company's organizational chart will evolve into four key areas of activity, comprised of 28 directorates: Corporate (10), Operations (4), Thematic Content (7), and Programmatic Content (7). Not only that, but three support committees will be created, each packed with diverse visions and functions, to handle a strategic response to cross-cutting issues.
The result? A rejuvenated RTP with 23 directors (and five accumulated directorates), versus the current count of 30. These newly appointed leaders will devise creative approaches and organization structures tailored to meet the goals outlined in the Strategic Project, while also making sure they've got the required human resources for the task at hand.
Rest assured, the Management Board's followed the law to a tee, ensuring compliance with the Independent General Council and the Regulatory Entity for Social Communication. Thequestion on everybody's mind—does this mean fewer public broadcasting services?—well, that's all speculation at this point. But we'll be keeping our ears to the street for updates! Stay tuned!
Business careers at RTP may see a shift due to the reorganization, as the company moves towards a digital future. The restructure, aimed at meeting the media world's fresh challenges, will also focus on optimizing internal business finance processes.
