Rüsselsheim's Ernst-Reuter Street to Get Barrier-Free Crossings and Upgraded Bus Stops This Summer
Rüsselsheim's public transport and pedestrian infrastructure are set for improvements this summer. Reuters Street will undergo changes, including barrier-free crossings and upgraded bus stops, while bus lines 31 and 32 will be detoured during the closure.
The street will be closed between Friedrich-Ebert and Reinhard-Strecker Streets until August 15 for the expansion of the bus stop on Reuters Street. During this time, lines 32 and 31 will be rerouted. Line 32 will leave Friedrich-Ebert Street after the Zeppelin Street stop, turn onto August-Bebel Street, and follow it towards the clinic/university, suspending the Sophie-Opel-Schule and Reuters Street stops. Line 31 will turn onto Karl-Marx Street and serve a temporary replacement stop on August-Bebel Street, suspending the Sophie-Opel-Schule stop. LNVG lines will not be affected as they only serve the Sophie-Opel-Schule stop during school hours.
Temporary replacement stops will be set up on August-Bebel Street. The bus stop in the direction of the station on Friedrich-Ebert Street will be moved to Reuters Street, opposite the school, and the existing waiting hall will be demolished and greened. After the expansion, buses will have their stopping positions at the same height on Reuters Street, and sidewalks and waiting areas will be widened. Passengers with rollators or strollers can board buses through the middle door on the same level, and wheelchair users can enter or be pushed in. The bus stop will also feature a green roof with drought-tolerant plants to aid in climate adaptation. Additionally, pedestrian crossings over Reuters Street, east and west of the school, will be made barrier-free and lit according to current standards, and a barrier-free, unsecured crossing will be created over Reinhard-Strecker Street.
The closure and detours are expected to cause some disruption to passengers' usual routes. However, the improvements aim to enhance accessibility and contribute to the city's climate goals. Once completed, passengers can expect more comfortable and inclusive bus travel, while pedestrians will benefit from safer and more accessible crossings.
