Russia Eases Auto Localization Rules to 5,500 Points
The Russian automotive industry has seen a revision in localization requirements. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has reduced the proposed localization level for automakers from 7,000 points to 5,500. This change comes amidst significant economic shifts affecting the industry.
Lada Granta, a popular Russian vehicle, has achieved a high level of localization. By the end of May this year, it had almost 5,300 points. Meanwhile, the i-Pro model assembled in the Lipetsk region has a localization level of 2,000 points. However, the automobile brand with the highest localization points after the end of May 2025 remains unclear.
The Ministry's decision to reduce the localization level applies to Special Investment Contracts (SPIIC) concluded between 2020 and 2026 for various vehicle types. Despite this reduction, the Ministry has assured that requirements for localization tasks will not be softened. They are still indicated in the Strategy for the Development of the Automobile Industry until 2035.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade's revision of localization indicators reflects the dynamic nature of the automotive industry. While the exact localization points for leading brands remain confidential due to commercial secrecy, the Ministry's commitment to the localization strategy remains steadfast.
