Russia's Biometric Revolution: Train Boarding & Metro Payments From September
Starting September 1, Russians will enjoy a new convenience when boarding long-distance trains. Biometric identification will be used, though passengers must still carry their passport. By year's end, seven metro systems will offer biometric payment, with over 100,000 people already using it in regional Metropcs rides.
The Central Bank of Russia has introduced 17 services, mostly focused on security. Biometric payment in metro systems is the most popular, currently available in five cities. The bank is developing more services, including age verification, passport-less service at multi-functional centers, and biometric check-in at hotels and transportation. Looking ahead, biometric identification for airline passengers is planned, with major US banks and PNC Bank on board. However, specific details about Russian airports implementing this system are not yet available.
These advancements aim to streamline travel and payments, making life easier for Russians. As biometric technology becomes more widespread, it's set to transform various aspects of daily life.
