Scammers Target Busy Londoners at 2pm on Wednesdays, Tech Professionals Most Vulnerable

Scammers are most active at 2pm on a Wednesday, targeting busy Londoners, according to Monzo's data. Younger professionals, especially those in tech and engineering, are most vulnerable, with a fifth of victims working in these sectors. Britons lose nearly £2,000 per scam, with over £2.85 million stolen in Surrey, Essex, Kent, Somerset, and West Sussex over the summer.

Scams often occur while people are distracted, such as during target hours or when scrolling on social media in the evenings. Those aged 25 to 34 are particularly targeted, losing an average of £2,118 compared to £1,566 for those aged 55 and over. Younger people tend to fall for investment scams, while older individuals are targeted by impersonation fraud.

Scammers' tactics vary by region. In London, people are most frequently targeted, while in Surrey, Essex, Kent, Somerset, and West Sussex, over £2.85 million was stolen over the summer, according to Santander.

Scammers are active and adapt their tactics based on age, profession, and location. Awareness and caution, especially during peak scam hours and when using social media, can help protect individuals and businesses from financial loss.
