Seeking Expressions of Interest for Expansion of Commercial and Industrial Areas in Dharavi; Deadline August 24th
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) has announced a policy that allows eligible commercial and industrial unit holders in Dharavi, Mumbai to avail additional space beyond the free 225 sq ft quota.
The eligibility criteria for this opportunity are as follows:
- The unit must be a commercial or industrial unit located on the ground floor within the Dharavi Notified Area.
- The unit should have existed on or before January 1, 2000.
- The owners must possess valid documents, such as:
- A Gumasta license issued by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).
- An LT-II meter from BEST (Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply & Transport).
Each eligible unit holder is entitled to 225 sq ft free of cost (or their existing unit area if smaller). If the existing ground floor unit size exceeds 250 sq ft, they are eligible to purchase additional space beyond 225 sq ft at construction cost. This cost is based on a ready reckoner rate and offered with certain telescopic/sliding scale reductions.
Eligible unit holders wishing to avail the additional space must submit their consent forms or Expression of Interest (EoI) by August 24, 2025, to the DRP through the online portal or at specified offices. Failure to submit by the deadline implies disinterest in additional space benefits.
This policy also accommodates non-owner commercial operators and lessees within the 10% area reserved for commercial use in the redevelopment, enhancing eligibility scope beyond just owners.
The state government and DRP are committed to protecting livelihoods and maintaining the 'walk to work' lifestyle of Dharavikars. Rehabilitated businesses and new units operating in the Dharavi Notified Area (DNA) are entitled to a five-year reimbursement of State Goods and Services Tax (SGST).
Title documents for business premises in Dharavi will provide easier access to institutional credit, helping businesses scale up faster. An online form for submitting EoI is available on the Dharavi Redevelopment Project's website, and the Dharavi Redevelopment Project's Slum Rehabilitation Authority has issued a public notice.
Both eligible and ineligible commercial units can continue operating from within Dharavi, preserving the existing business and commercial ecosystem. The deadline for submitting Expression of Interest (EoI) is August 24, 2025.
