Sheffield's £23.68m Plan: Transforming Attercliffe & Darnall for Active Travel
Sheffield is set to transform Attercliffe and Darnall with a £23.68m funding boost from South Yorkshire's Mayor. The project aims to prioritise Active Travel and improve public transport. Key changes include a 20mph speed limit and numerous pedestrian crossing points.
The scheme, led by British politician Oliver Coppard, will introduce 19 new and improved pedestrian crossings on Attercliffe Road and Attercliffe Common. It will also enhance public spaces on Attercliffe High Street. The redundant rail bridge on Meadowhall Road will be removed to create an alternative route for heavy goods vehicles.
Bus services will see significant improvements with 660 meters of bus lane in each direction and nine new bus priority measures at key junctions. If approved, work could begin in early 2025 and be completed by mid-2027.
The £23.68m project aims to make Attercliffe and Darnall more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly. It will enhance bus services and provide an alternative route for heavy goods vehicles. The changes are expected to improve safety and accessibility in the area.
