Siemens Mobility, a key division of global technology powerhouse Siemens, has recently expanded its train factory in Munich-Allach, marking a significant stride in the company's commitment to Germany as a manufacturing and innovation hub.
The €250 million investment in new buildings, advanced production facilities, and AI-based software solutions has tripled the site's capacity for maintenance, allowing for up to 80 locomotives to undergo revisions or accident repairs per year. This expansion has also increased the production capacity to manufacture up to 385 locomotives and 180 carriages annually.
The expanded site now covers over 100,000 square meters of usable space and produces both locomotives and carriages based on the Vectron locomotive platform and the Vectouro passenger cars. This consolidation of key business functions aims to streamline innovation and accelerate project implementation for customers, reflecting a core part of Siemens' ONE Tech Company program.
The move to Munich-Allach also brings together areas such as research, development, production, service, and management under one roof. This integration is expected to drive innovation and enhance the company's role in local economic development, creating around 500 new jobs and increasing the workforce to approximately 2,500 employees.
Siemens Mobility's CEO, Michael Peter, emphasizes the use of technologies such as laser-guided installation, robotics, and digital twins as key to the site's success. The facility is described as one of the most modern train production centers in Europe, featuring state-of-the-art production equipment and digital systems.
In addition, Siemens Digital Logistics, part of the broader Siemens ecosystem, showcases cutting-edge supply chain and transport logistics solutions that complement the manufacturing and service capabilities of Siemens Mobility. The Allach site will serve as the headquarters for the Siemens Mobility rail technology division, reinforcing Germany's status as a prime site for mobility innovation.
CEO Roland Busch emphasizes that Siemens is demonstrating in Allach how competitive manufacturing can be in Germany with superior products, high degrees of automation, digitalization, and the use of artificial intelligence. The expansion of Siemens Mobility's train factory in Munich-Allach is seen as a "clear commitment to the high-tech location of Germany."
