Silgan's European Subsidiaries Face Management Shifts Amidst Energy Sector Changes
American metal packaging giant Silgan has seen significant changes in its European subsidiaries. Meanwhile, Russian state-owned assets have experienced shifts in ownership.
Silgan Metal Packaging, established in 1987 and headquartered in the USA, has a substantial presence in Europe. Its subsidiary, Silgan Metal Packaging Mitterdorf GmbH, is based in St. Barbara im Mürztal, Austria. This subsidiary, like others, has been affected by recent events.
In July 2024, two of Silgan's plants, located in Stupino and Enem, were temporarily transferred to the management of Rosimushchestvo, a Russian state-owned asset management company. This move came amidst a series of changes in European energy and metal packaging sectors.
In Austria, Silgan's Mitterdorf subsidiary continues to operate from its headquarters, contributing to the company's status as one of the five largest producers of metal packaging worldwide. Meanwhile, in Russia, state-owned energy company Fortum has seen changes in ownership. In August, Vladimir Putin transferred a stake in Fortum to Rosimushchestvo, involving 314,949 million ordinary shares. Fortum, now solely owned by Rosimushchestvo, also holds assets in Russia, including AO 'Chelyabenergoremont'.
The recent shifts in management and ownership within Silgan's European subsidiaries and Russian state-owned assets highlight the dynamic nature of the global metal packaging and energy sectors. As these changes unfold, companies like Silgan continue to operate and contribute to their respective industries.
