Skyrocketing auto insurance costs for millions of drivers, seemingly unaffected by accident history or vehicle condition
In Baden-Württemberg, a total of twelve registration districts have seen an upward shift in their casco insurance classes. This adjustment in regional classes has brought about some significant changes for several cities and counties.
The city of Karlsruhe, for instance, experiences a positive development as its liability decreases by one class, now standing at level 7. However, the partial casco rating in the county has risen by one level to eight, while it remains unchanged in the city itself.
The Enz district, on the other hand, has seen an increase in its liability class to level 7, due to the changes. Baden-Baden, meanwhile, is affected in the case of full casco insurance, now classified at level 7.
Karlsruhe-Land is affected in the case of partial casco insurance. The county's motorway junction, which is included within the city area, plays a role in determining the regional class.
In a surprising turn, the city of Karlsruhe remains unaffected in terms of the liability type class for a Ford Focus (from 2018) with a 125 PS one-litre petrol engine, as the liability class increases to level 16.
The increase in classes is not as drastic as one might expect, usually varying between one or two classes. It's important to note that insurance premiums depend on the specific insurance contract, and a higher deductible can influence the price of the insurance.
The ADAC predicts an increase in car insurance liability for almost six million vehicles, due to the new vehicle classifications by the GDV for around 33,000 models.
It's recommended to contact the insurance company if the premium has increased to inquire if anything can still be done. Examining the terms of the insurance contract is also advised, as many insurers offer tariffs with a workshop binding.
In some cases, considering a comprehensive insurance with a high deductible can provide coverage against expensive damages in times of rising repair costs. Interestingly, no specific cities or districts in Baden-Württemberg that were downgraded in the regional class ratings for liability insurance have been identified in the available search results.
The regional class represents the average risk of damage for a registration area. Insurers can claim higher costs even with decreasing classes, as some workshops charge up to 300 euros per hour.
