Slowed car sales, Honda Elevate notification, BMW Electric Vehicle sneak peek
In a bid to stimulate growth in the automobile sector, the government is working on a revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure that is expected to reduce the tax rate for passenger vehicles, particularly small and medium-sized vehicles. However, this revision seems to have caused a delay in consumer purchase decisions, contributing to the sluggish growth pace for the industry.
For the fourth consecutive month, passenger vehicle wholesales in India recorded a sluggish pace in August 2025, with as many as 3.30 lakh cars being dispatched from factories to dealerships, marking a seven per cent decline from the same month last year.
Amidst this sluggish growth, several automobile manufacturers are introducing new models and updates to keep their offerings fresh and competitive.
Hyundai, for instance, has launched the Hyundai Creta King, King Knight, and King Limited Edition to celebrate the SUV's 10 years in the Indian market. These latest iterations of the SUV come with several exterior, interior, and feature enhancements. The King Edition, in particular, is priced at ₹17.88 lakh.
Honda Cars India has also updated the Elevate SUV with fresh interior colour options and enhanced styling elements. The updated Elevate retains the same prices, with the range starting at ₹11.91 lakh (ex-showroom). The model now offers new grille options, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
In the luxury segment, Mercedes-Benz aims for a growth in its luxury electric vehicle sales in India. The brand expects 25 per cent of its total revenue to come from EVs by 2027, supported by recent new model launches. Indian automobile brands Mahindra Electric and Tata Motors also hope for a recovery in passenger vehicle sales in India through a potential GST tax reduction and a boost from the festival season.
On the international front, BMW has released a teaser video of the Neue Klasse iX3 50 xDrive, which will be unveiled on 5 September at the Munich Auto Show. The automaker will also unveil the next-generation iX3 during the event.
Despite the current challenges, the Indian passenger vehicle industry continues to evolve, with manufacturers introducing innovative models and updates to keep up with consumer demands and the increasingly crowded market.
