Sneak peeks of BMW's F 450 GS reveal its production-ready model, shedding light on anticipated features.
BMW F 450 GS: A Practical Adventure Tourer
The production-ready BMW F 450 GS is set to hit the markets soon, offering a blend of practicality, regulatory compliance, and rider comfort for mid-range adventure touring.
Design and Ergonomics
The production model deviates from the F 450 GS Concept in several key areas. The rear section is wider and less sporty to accommodate two-person comfort and luggage transport. Rear-view mirrors, turn signals, reflectors, and a more stable license plate holder have been added for road legality. The exhaust system position is lowered to comply with Euro 5+ emission standards, and the windscreen design differs significantly from the concept. The production bike features five-spoke cast alloy wheels, emphasizing commuter practicality over the concept’s adventure touring look.
Engine and Performance
Both the concept and production models use a newly developed, water-cooled parallel twin-cylinder 450 cc engine. The engine produces about 47-48 hp (~35 kW) at around 8,500 rpm, designed specifically to meet Europe's A2 license class limits. The engine has a unique ignition offset for a high-revving yet tractable powerband, tuned to deliver strong low-end torque for off-road and urban use.
Chassis and Suspension
The production bike retains a steel bridge trellis frame with a bolt-on rear sub-frame and features an aluminium swing-arm with a central spring strut. Suspension consists of upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock; however, the production model has reduced suspension travel compared to the concept. Wheel sizes remain 19-inch front and 17-inch rear.
Transmission and Technology
The production model offers two transmission variants: a classic 6-speed manual gearbox and a version with BMW’s semi-automatic Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) to assist new riders. Braking includes front and rear disc brakes with switchable dual-channel ABS. Rider aids expected are configurable ride modes, switchable traction control, ABS, and possibly a quickshifter as an optional feature. The cockpit features a full-color TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, supporting calls, texts, music, and turn-by-turn navigation controlled via BMW’s rotary handlebar controller.
The adventure tourer will have three riding modes that can be freely configured based on the rider’s terrain and performance preferences. The BMW F 450 GS will also feature lean-sensitive ABS, enhancing safety during cornering.
Pricing and Launch
The expected price for the BMW F 450 GS ranges between ₹4 lakh to ₹4.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The BMW F 450 GS is expected to be unveiled soon and launched by the end of 2025. In global markets, it will fill the gap between the G 310 GS and the F 800 GS. The BMW F 450 GS will be slotted in as the entry point to BMW Motorrad’s adventure motorcycle lineup in India.
The latest spy shots of the BMW F 450 GS reveal changes from the concept model, including a conventional, vertically stacked dual-LED headlamp and a broader tail section with a new rear subframe to accommodate a pillion seat. The adventure tourer will come equipped with a 6.5-inch TFT instrument display offering full Bluetooth connectivity.
The BMW F 450 GS is currently undergoing testing, and it's an exciting time for adventure motorcycle enthusiasts eagerly awaiting its launch. Stay tuned for more updates on this promising new addition to BMW Motorrad's lineup.
