Solar energy venture, Geronimo Power, commences construction on Jackson County's 125 Megawatt solar project, Michigan.
Geronimo Power Kicks Off Michigan's Jackson County Solar Project
Geronimo Power, a leading renewable energy developer, has commenced construction of the 125 MW Jackson County Solar project in Michigan. This project forms part of Geronimo Power's MiSolar portfolio, expanding its presence in the Midwestern Independent System Operator (MISO) market[1][2][3][4].
Located in Jackson County, Michigan, the solar plant is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 33,600 homes annually[1][3]. It is also anticipated to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 161,300 metric tons per year—equivalent to removing nearly 37,000 vehicles from the road each year[1][3].
The project, which is being led by Barnhart Energy Company (BEC)[4], will deliver about $28 million in tax revenues over the first 20 years, benefiting local governments, townships, and school districts[1][3][4]. Additionally, the construction and operation of the solar plant will sustain nearly 300 construction and service jobs[1][3][4].
Geronimo Power's renewable energy capacity within the MISO market is set to nearly reach 1 GW with the completion of the Jackson County Solar project[1][2][3]. The company has already developed over 2.5 GW of clean energy projects within the MISO market[1][2][3].
Recently, Geronimo Power also started construction on a 250 MW solar project in Wisconsin, further expanding its footprint in the MISO region[1][2]. These initiatives have contributed to generating over $275 million in new tax revenues across the MISO market[1].
Earlier this month, Geronimo Power brought online the 120MW Ross and 47.5MW Fayette Solar Projects in Ohio[5]. With the Jackson County Solar project, Geronimo Power is set to make a substantial contribution to the clean energy landscape in the Midwest.
The Jackson County Solar project, along with other ongoing and upcoming projects by Geronimo Power in the MISO market, include:
- 125 MW Jackson County Solar project in Michigan (under construction)
- 250 MW solar project in Wisconsin (recently started)
- Expansion of their MiSolar Portfolio toward nearly 1 GW total capacity across multiple states in the region[1][2][3].
These projects are focused on generating clean renewable energy, producing economic benefits such as tax revenue and jobs, and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
