Staedtler Expands in Eastern Europe, Consolidates German Sites
Staedtler, a historic stationery manufacturer established in 1835, has revealed plans to construct a new facility in Eastern Europe. This decision is part of the company's ongoing restructuring, which includes the closure of two German sites by 2028.
The Staedtler company, one of the three major traditional manufacturers in the Franconian stationery industry, currently employs around 2200 people globally, with approximately 1200 in Germany. Despite resistance from the IG Metall union, Staedtler has decided to shut down its locations in Sugenheim and Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz to centralize production at its headquarters in Nuremberg.
The closures will impact around 100 employees in Sugenheim and around 200 in Neumarkt. However, Staedtler has offered all affected employees the opportunity to continue their employment at the main production site in Nuremberg. The closed sites will be integrated into the Nuremberg facility.
Staedtler's expansion into Eastern Europe, coupled with the consolidation of its German production sites, reflects the company's strategic efforts to remain competitive in the global stationery market. The integration of the closed sites into the Nuremberg facility is expected to optimize operations and ensure business continuity.
