Summer Vacation Update: Modification of Lines 1 and 3 in Freiburg for SEV (Streetcar) Service
Freiburg Tram Lines to Undergo Significant Changes During Track Maintenance
Starting from July 31st, 2025, the third phase of track maintenance in Freiburg will bring about significant modifications to tram lines 1 and 3. During this period, a shared rail replacement service (Schienenersatzverkehr, SEV) will replace tram travel on affected sections.
Impact on Tram Lines 1 and 3
From July 31st, the SEV buses will run jointly on lines 1 and 3 where rails are being renewed. The trams will not operate normally on sections impacted by the work during this period.
Line 32 Disruption
Line 32 will be affected as well, with the "Ochsen" stop being temporarily unavailable from July 30th until August 22nd due to roadwork in Umkircher Straße intersecting with maintenance activities.
Changes to Other Lines
Several other lines (2, 4, 5, 19, 32, 34, and 36) are also expected to undergo changes to their schedules, with stop cancellations and detours likely. Specific reroutes or schedule changes for these lines have not been detailed yet.
Alternative Transportation Options
To ensure continuity of service, Schienenersatzverkehr (SEV) buses will replace tram services on the affected stretches of lines 1 and 3. Additionally, other bus routes and possibly altered tram services on other lines may be introduced to compensate for closures or detours due to simultaneous roadworks in areas like Umkircher Straße.
Transfer Points
Transfers to the SEV can be made at Robert-Koch-Straße or Bissierstraße.
Line 10 Service Adjustments
Line 10 will no longer be in service, but its services via Paduaallee will be taken over by line 36.
Line 3 Split and SEV Section
Line 3 will be split into two sections: the northern section from Gundelfinger Straße to Robert-Koch-Straße, and the southern section between Munzinger Straße and Bissierstraße. The section between Robert-Koch-Straße and Moosweiher will be replaced by the SEV for lines 1 and 3.
Line 1 Route
Line 1 will run between Laßbergstraße and Rathaus in Stühlinger, with a diversion via Robert-Koch-Straße to Messe Freiburg.
SEV Frequency and Comfortable Transfers
The SEV for lines 1 and 3 will operate at a frequency of every 2 to 3 minutes during the day. Comfortable transfer options will be available for passengers from surrounding neighborhoods during the construction phase.
Construction Phase Duration
The construction phase for the expanded track maintenance work is expected to last until September 14th.
Passengers are advised to check the VAG Freiburg website or current announcements for detailed, line-specific guidance during the maintenance period to plan their journeys accordingly. For comprehensive updates, the official VAG Freiburg site is the primary authoritative source.
The changes in the industry of transportation in Freiburg will be evident starting from July 31st, 2025, as several tram lines, including 1 and 3, will be replaced by Schienenersatzverkehr (SEV) buses during track maintenance. The finance sector may also be impacted due to the increased need for alternative transportation options during this period, as passengers may need to seek different modes of travel, such as buses, to ensure continuity of service.
