Sung Min-Kook Achieves Billboard Chart Debut for the First Time as His Album Regains Popularity

Jung Kook's musical journey is taking a break at the moment, with the artist serving his mandatory time in the South Korean military. Despite this, fans of the BTS member are still showing their support, listening to his music both solo and as a part of the renowned group. The most dedicated followers aren't just listeners, they're investors.

Jung Kook's solo album, Golden, reappears on the Billboard charts this week. The title even managed to debut in a chart position that the artist had never reached alone before.

This week, Golden ranks at No. 11 on the Vinyl Albums chart, marking Jung Kook's first appearance on Billboard's list of the top-selling vinyl albums in the U.S. Given that he's only released one vinyl album on his own, this isn't too surprising. What is a bit peculiar, however, is the amount of time it took for the project to make its way onto this list.

Golden was initially released over a year ago, in November 2023. The album became available on vinyl in various parts of the world last month. It wasn't until mid-December that it went on sale in the Western world, making it an ideal holiday gift for die-hard Jung Kook fans.

Jung Kook's sole vinyl release sold an additional 10,300 copies in the U.S. last week, according to Luminate. Given that there wasn't any other significant reason for audiences to buy the one-year-old set, it's likely that the majority of these sales were on vinyl.

Golden is the only debut on the Vinyl Albums chart this week. This is strange, given that vinyl records have become quite popular in the music industry and almost every major artist is now releasing their work on this format. Considering it's the busiest time of the year for vinyl drops, one would expect more launches... but not necessarily more strong sellers.

Several titles make a comeback on the Vinyl Albums list as holiday shoppers purchase gifts. Daft Punk's Discovery (No. 9), Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, M.A.A.D City (No. 18), Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas (No. 20), Zach Bryan's self-titled (No. 22), and SZA's Ctrl (No. 23) all return to the chart this week.

Golden also returns to a few other charts as its sales increase significantly. Jung Kook reappears on both the Billboard 200 (No. 109) and the Top Album Sales chart (No. 21), continuing his presence on these rankings.
