In a recent development, a video of a possible Tesla Model Y, believed to be a more affordable version, has surfaced on Weibo, offering a first detailed look at what's widely believed to be Tesla's next big product.

The video, posted by @TeslaTickerDE, shows a vehicle with 19-inch wheels equipped with Pirelli tires, nearly identical to the current Model Y wheelbase, and simplified taillights. However, the vehicle does not feature an LED light bar, and the interior boasts lower-grade materials.

Elon Musk, during Tesla's Q2 2025 earnings call, confirmed that this vehicle is in early production. He also revealed that volume production of the low-cost Model Y is expected to begin in Q4 2025, with deliveries scheduled before the end of the year and a full launch targeted for late 2025 [1][2][3].

This timing aligns with Tesla's broader strategy to make EVs more affordable amid tightening market conditions and diminishing government incentives, with a focus on maintaining key vehicle features while cutting costs [1][4]. The stripped-down Model Y could be priced below ¥200,000 RMB (around $28,000 USD or €25,000), making it a more accessible option for price-sensitive buyers [5].

The vehicle in the video also appears to show visible changes suggesting major cost-cutting measures, such as a lower and more compact headlight design and the absence of a rear passenger screen [6]. It's important to note that the vehicle in the video is not yet officially confirmed by Tesla.

The $7,500 federal EV tax credit for Tesla will sunset on September 30, 2025, and the new, cheaper Model Y may help stoke demand in the U.S. without subsidies [7].

Stay tuned for more updates as Tesla continues to push the boundaries of affordable electric vehicle production.
