Tested VW van: "Bulli" ranks as the seventh best model
New Volkswagen Transporter Unveiled: A Modern Take on a Classic
Volkswagen has recently unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic Transporter, boasting a host of new features designed to enhance convenience, comfort, and functionality.
The new Transporter boasts a sleek and modern digital cockpit, featuring a 12-inch instrument panel and a 13-inch touchscreen. Above the touchscreen, a permanent bar displays standard information, while important vehicle functions, menus, and audio volume controls are conveniently located on a strip on the right side of the steering wheel.
The infotainment system can be optionally enhanced with a navigation system, Volkswagen Online Services "VW Connect" and "VW Connect Plus", and a Harman-Kardon sound system.
The new Transporter is available in various seating configurations, accommodating two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-seaters, making it versatile for a wide range of uses. The interior is also variable, with options for customizing the cargo area through various bulkheads.
The new Transporter is 5,050 millimeters long, an increase of 146 millimeters over its predecessor, but with a height of less than two meters, it should fit into all common parking garages. The cargo length of the new Transporter with standard wheelbase is 2,602 millimeters.
The base version of the new Transporter is 61 millimeters longer and has a width between wheel arches of 1,392 millimeters, crucial for loading pallets. Without mirrors, the new Transporter is 2,032 millimeters wide, which may prohibit it from using the right lane in certain highway construction sites.
The new Transporter has a payload capacity of up to 1.33 tons and a towing capacity of up to 2.8 tons. The turning circle of the new Transporter is 11.80 meters.
The light functions in the new Transporter are located on the left side of the steering wheel, and the optional individual seats of the second row can be easily removed. The "Bulli" version of the Transporter is produced together with Ford in Turkey.
Looking to the future, Volkswagen has announced that it will be offering an electric version of the Transporter model, the VW Transporter T7, expected to appear in early 2025. This model will be available in various versions, including electric and plug-in hybrid options. Ford also offers the E-Transit, a fully electric transporter model.
The new Transporter's pricing starts at €36,780 for the 81 kW (110 PS) TDI panel van, making it an affordable choice for businesses and individuals alike. With its modern features, increased cargo space, and versatile seating options, the new Transporter is set to continue the legacy of this iconic vehicle.
