The announcing of the nominees for the IED Awards 2024 has been unveiled
The Institute of Economic Development (IED) is hosting their annual awards in 2023, marking a significant milestone as a professional body that celebrates its 40th anniversary. The event, scheduled to take place on 6 November in the Great Hall at BMA house in London, will honour the outstanding contributions made by individuals, teams, and projects in the field of economic development.
Nominees for the Leader of the Year award include Becky Davies, Economic Development Manager at Torbay Council; Bev Hurley, CBE, CEO at YTKO; and Claire Pearce, former Director of Planning and Economic Development at This is Gravity Ltd. The Social Value Champion of the Year nominees are Charles Rapson, Strategic Lead for Social Economy Growth at West Midlands Combined Authority; Make Your Place, Southampton Business School and the Future Towns Innovation Hub at the University of Southampton; and The Sunspot, Jaywick Workspace at Tendring District Council.
In the category of Team of the Year, the Economic Development Team at Basildon Council, the Economic Growth and Housing Service at Sefton Council, and the Economy Team at Torbay Council are in the running. The Rising Star of the Year nominees are Connor Conneely, Senior Economic Development Officer at Torbay Council; James Corden, Economic Development Planning Manager at National Highways; and Matt Budd, Associate Director at AMION Consulting.
The Collaborative Initiative of the Year award nominees are Cradle to Career (Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Right to Succeed Charity), Place-Based Impact Investing (PBII) initiative (The Good Economy), and STEP Fusion Programme (West Lindsey District Council). The Most Innovative Project of the Year category has yet to reveal its nominees.
The Outstanding Impact award, sponsored by Key Cities, has nominees including From trains to cranes - HS2 and the West Midlands' development boom (HS2 Limited and Arcadis Consulting (UK) Ltd), Salford Central Masterplan (English Cities Fund in partnership with Salford City Council), and The Business and Tourism Programme: Boosting the economic legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games (West Midlands Growth Company).
An additional award, Outstanding Contribution to Economic Development, will be announced on the evening. Sponsors for the IED Annual Conference include AtkinsRéalis, Growth Maturity Index, Pegasus Group, Lichfields, and WECD.
Work has commenced at Liverpool's Paddington South development, and the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference will be held in Australia.
