The significant issue regarding kerosene supply has largely been alleviated

In an unexpected turn of events, a kerosene supply disruption at Hamburg Airport caused two flights to Mallorca and one Condor flight to Hurghada to be cancelled last Friday. However, the situation appears to be improving as the kerosene shortage has been largely resolved since Thursday afternoon.

According to the refinery's website, logistics companies can continue to collect gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel for Hamburg Airport, and heating oil for households as usual. The spokesperson for the Heide refinery, located in Hemmingstedt, Kreis Dithmarschen, did not provide the exact cause of the disruption, only mentioning "unforeseen circumstances".

Despite the disruption, flight operations at the airport continue to run smoothly. All other aircraft took off largely as planned on Friday, and no additional cancellations have been reported for today. The red warning banner about the kerosene shortage has been removed from the Hamburg Airport website.

Some airlines have reportedly planned refuelling stops in their flight schedules due to the kerosene shortage. Passengers affected by flight changes at Hamburg Airport are generally well and directly informed by their airlines, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson also noted that not all delays or even cancellations at the airport can be attributed to the kerosene shortage. The extensive maintenance work at the Heide refinery, which has been ongoing since mid-September, is being carried out by the refinery itself. The refinery conducts TÜV shutdowns to check, clean, and maintain the facilities, and has promised that shortages are not expected during the maintenance work.

The maintenance work includes installations being inspected, cleaned, and maintained. The work will continue until 4 October. The spokesperson for the Heide refinery could not provide an exact timeline for when normal supply levels would be reached at Hamburg Airport, nor could they provide any further information about the kerosene shortage.

Despite the ongoing maintenance work and the recent kerosene shortage, passengers can rest assured that they are being well-informed by their airlines and that flight operations at Hamburg Airport continue to run smoothly.
