This week, the critically acclaimed drama "The Last Showgirl," featuring Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis, hits digital streaming platforms. The film, with a rating of R, earned Anderson Best Actress nominations from the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and BAFTAs. Directed by Gia Coppola, the film opened for an awards-qualifying run in limited release before expanding to a nationwide release on January 10. Set in Las Vegas, the story follows Shelly (Anderson), a longtime showgirl who is blindsided when she learns her popular dance show is closing down after 50 years. Shelly's attempts to reconnect with her estranged adult daughter, Hannah (Billie Lourd), and manage her uncertain future add to her struggles.
Curtis plays Shelly's best friend, Annette, a former fellow dancer struggling to make ends meet. The film also stars Kiernan Shipka and Brenda Song as Jodie and Mary-Anne, younger dancers in Shelly's troupe.
"The Last Showgirl" will debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, February 18. The film can be pre-ordered on Prime Video for $14.99, with a rental price of $9.99 for a 48-hour period on other digital platforms like AppleTV and Fandango at Home.
Despite the Oscar snub, Pamela Anderson remained positive about her role in the film. In an interview with Elle, she said, "Doing the work is the win. That’s what I like to do, and I think we can lose sight of that sometimes in this whole crazy awards season."
While the film received mixed reviews, praising Pamela Anderson's performance but criticizing underdeveloped characters and relations, it still managed to earn $4.6 million at the domestic box office. Despite not being released internationally, it has generated ongoing revenue.
