Title: Osterloh Faces Compensation Court Appeal After Leaving VW Union Post

Bernd Osterloh, the former vigorous leader of Volkswagen's works council, is now embroiled in legal troubles. The Regional Court of Brunswick has initiated a criminal investigation against him, alleging questionable remunerations. A court spokesperson confirmed that the main proceedings have commenced, and the Public Prosecutor's Office's indictment has been admitted into the trial.

Two individuals, including Osterloh, face charges of aiding and abetting the approval of potentially extravagant payments in three separate cases. Regrettably, no trial dates have been scheduled as yet. When approached for comment, Osterloh remained silent, stating, "I will not comment on this matter."

This current legal battle stems from an earlier criminal proceeding that concluded in 2021 at the Regional Court of Brunswick. At that time, four Volkswagen personnel managers were implicated in approving excessive remunerations for various works councils, including Osterloh's. In years brimming with bonuses, Osterloh received compensation up to 750,000 euros.

The Regional Court had absolved the accused previously, but in 2023, the Federal Court of Justice overturned the verdict. As a result, the proceedings have to be reopened, but no new trial dates have been announced as of yet.

In the previous proceedings, Osterloh was only summoned as a witness. Now, the public prosecutor's office accuses him of aiding and abetting. Osterloh and his co-defendant will be tried separately, the court spokesperson clarified, emphasizing that both proceedings are distinct.

Sources suggest that Osterloh's yearly salary reached two million euros, sparking scrutiny and potential legal inquiry[1]. However, for a comprehensive and updated account of the proceedings, it would be crucial to refer to specific legal documents, news articles, or official statements from relevant authorities[2].

The Public Prosecutor's Office is accusing The Commission, which likely refers to the commission overseeing Volkswagen's remuneration practices, of being involved in the approval of questionable payments. The case against Osterloh and his co-defendant is being tried separately by The Commission, highlighting the distinct nature of both proceedings.
