Title: Taylor Swift's Surprise Album Strikes Gold Once More

Taylor Swift's diehard fans have been smitten with the tune "Cruel Summer" since its debut on her 2019 album Lover. Initially, the song functioned as merely an album cut, marking Swift's return to pop music. She aimed to promote it as a single, but the Covid-19 pandemic interfered, altering her plans, among other things.

However, in 2023, "Cruel Summer" achieved single status, thanks to going viral. Swift's fans fell back in love with the track when she featured it on the setlist of her The Eras Tour. Subsequently, it climbed the charts and became a hit.

Enjoying a full five years after its original release, and over a year following its transition into single status, "Cruel Summer" is again gracing the charts in the U.K. Notably, it appears on two separate rankings this week, reclaiming its status as a hit.

On the Official Streaming chart, a list of the UK's most successful cuts on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, "Cruel Summer" nearly re-entered the top 40, securing a spot at No. 43. Moreover, it also returned to the main singles chart, which combines sales and streams to depict the British public's consumption habits. Swift rocketed up the chart, landing at No. 75 - a position she failed to secure during its previous appearance.

Swift managed to push "Cruel Summer" into the top 10 of both the charts it graced this week. Impressively, it climbed to No. 4 on the Official Streaming ranking and soared even higher on the most competitive songs list.

Although it came close to securing another UK No. 1 hit for Swift during her impressive run on the singles chart, which began in June 2023, "Cruel Summer" ultimately peaked at No. 2, falling just short of the top spot. Interestingly, the tune made its debut on the UK's songs chart back in 2019, but it faded away after only a week, as it wasn't being promoted at the time. However, upon its return in 2023, it rapidly surpassed that original position.

Though "Cruel Summer" did not feature on the UK's biggest songs of 2024 list, its global success and continued popularity, including hitting number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and other international charts, indicate its strong performance in various international markets, including the U.K., where it initially debuted as an album track in 2019 and gained renewed popularity through Swift's Eras Tour in 2023.
