Top Carriers Ranked Safest in Global Skies for Year 2025

In the realm of aviation safety, AirlineRatings.com has released its annual list of the Top 25 Safest Full-Service and Low-Cost Airlines for 2025. This comprehensive ranking is based on various factors, including serious incidents, fleet age, fleet size, rate of incidents, fatalities, profitability, IOSA certification, ICAO country audit pass, pilot skill, and training.

Leading the pack in the Full-Service category is a tie between Air New Zealand and Qantas, with only 1.50 points separating them. These two airlines have consistently demonstrated exceptional safety standards, earning them the top spot. Notably, Singapore Airlines is not ranked within the Top 25 Safest Full-Service Airlines for 2025 due to some recent incidents. However, it's important to note that Singapore Airlines maintains high safety ratings overall.

In the Low-Cost category, HK Express emerges as the frontrunner. The Jetstar Group, Ryanair, easyJet, Frontier Airlines, AirAsia, Wizz Air, VietJet Air, Southwest Airlines, Volaris, flydubai, Norwegian, Vueling, Jet2, Sun Country Airlines, WestJet, JetBlue Airways, Air Arabia, IndiGo, Eurowings, Allegiant Air, Cebu Pacific, ZipAir, SKY Airline, Air Baltic round out the rest of the Top 25. New additions to this list include Zipair, Jet2, and Air Baltic.

Sadly, Spirit Airlines is absent from the Top 25 Safest Low-Cost Airlines for 2025 due to filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2024. On the other hand, Korean Air rose into the top 10 in the Full-Service category.

AirlineRatings.com has also introduced a groundbreaking flight booking platform that allows users to search for flights based on safety alongside price and duration. This innovative feature is designed to empower travellers to make informed decisions about their travel choices.

The importance of airline safety is further underscored by statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), which estimated 1.19 million fatalities from road accidents in 2023, equating to more than two deaths per minute. In contrast, the global death risk per flight boarding was approximately one in 13.7 million between 2018 and 2022.

Remembering the tragic incident of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, where a door plug detached mid-flight, causing rapid cabin depressurisation and attributed to manufacturing defects, the importance of safety in the aviation industry cannot be overstated. Incidents such as the crash of JAL Flight 516 at Haneda Airport last year serve as stark reminders of the need for constant vigilance and improvement in airline safety.

Airline Rating was developed in 2012 to provide everyone in the world a one-stop-shop for everything related to airlines. This year's Top 25 Safest Airlines list is a testament to the strides made in the industry towards ensuring the highest levels of safety for passengers.

In the finance sector, the aviation industry's performance can be gauged by the profits of top-ranking airlines, such as Air New Zealand and Qantas in the Full-Service category, and HK Express in the Low-Cost category, as their high safety ratings indicate a stable and successful business.

The innovative flight booking platform by AirlineRatings.com, which enables users to search for flights based on safety, reflects the increasing importance of safety considerations in the travel industry, aligning with the statistics provided by the World Health Organization showing the comparatively low death risk per flight boarding.
