Subaru has once again claimed the top spot in the Auto Express Driver Power 2025 new car customer satisfaction survey, marking the second consecutive year that the Japanese marque has won the prestigious Driver Power Manufacturer Award.

The survey, which is split into ten categories, saw Subaru excel in seven of them, particularly in ride and handling, and quality and reliability. These results reflect the brand's rally heritage and its commitment to producing high-quality vehicles. Subaru beat premium marques like Mercedes, BMW, and even Tesla in overall owner satisfaction, according to the Driver Power survey.

Mercedes took second place in the brand rankings, highly regarded for its safety systems, infotainment, and design. However, the German marque was held back by high running costs. Lexus, Toyota's premium brand, finished 11 places ahead of its cheaper sister brand, securing third place. Lexus landed on the podium thanks to its reliability and interior quality, and it finished in the top-five for value, infotainment, interior, and quality and reliability.

Vauxhall can be proud of its fourth place finish with a score of 86.80%, but its interior fit and finish received a low score. Renault beat its French rival but just missed out on the top 5 with a score of 86.29%. Land Rover is building its reputation back up amongst drivers with a score of 86.52%. Honda came in tenth with a score of 85.77%.

The top 10 brands all achieved over 85 per cent, with Tesla, Skoda, Volvo, Toyota, Nissan, Citroen, Mazda, Kia, Audi, Hyundai, Fiat, Mini, Ford, Seat, Jaguar, Jeep, Volkswagen, Cupra, Dacia, BYD, and MG also appearing among the other top car brands.

BMW came in eighth place with a score of 86.00%, while Peugeot scored 86.12%. Mercedes owners say that the German marque has the best safety systems and finest infotainment systems. However, Vauxhall scored outside the top 10 for safety features and value for money.

In summary, for the Auto Express Driver Power 2025 new car customer satisfaction survey, Subaru is the standout top brand, followed by Mercedes and Lexus. The crown for the best car brands has been taken by a Japanese marque for the second year in a row.
