Toyota Invests $360M in Vietnam for First Hybrid Vehicle Line

Toyota Motor Vietnam is set to invest over $360 million to establish its first hybrid car production line in the country. This significant move aims to bolster local manufacturing and supply chains, while also reducing reliance on imports.

The Japanese automaker, which is among Vietnam's top 10 taxpayers in 2024 with $14.4 billion in payments, plans to expand its local assembly operations. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Vietnam's automotive industry.

Toyota Vietnam's commitment to the country is evident in its production and sales figures. Since 1995, it has produced over 700,000 vehicles and delivered over one million units to customers. In the first eight months of 2025 alone, Toyota ranked as Vietnam's second-largest car brand with 41,113 units sold. The Vios sedan, in particular, has been a top seller, with 263,092 units sold to date.

The company's exports of parts and components have also generated nearly $1 billion, contributing significantly to Vietnam's economy. As part of this new investment, Toyota Vietnam will modernize its headquarters and plant to accommodate the new hybrid car production line.

Toyota Motor Vietnam's latest investment of over $360 million underscores its commitment to Vietnam's automotive industry. The launch of the first hybrid car production line is expected to deepen local manufacturing, strengthen supply chains, and reduce import reliance. With this move, Toyota continues to play a pivotal role in Vietnam's automotive sector, contributing to both economic growth and sustainable mobility.
