Trump Administration Seeks to Block Michigan in Climate Lawsuit
The Trump administration has filed a request with a federal judge in Michigan to halt the state's involvement in a lawsuit against the oil and gas industry over climate change. The administration argues that delaying the review of its case would cause significant harm to the United States.
In a brief filed on Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, the Department of Justice urged the judge to hear the administration's lawsuit against Michigan. The Trump administration is seeking to block Michigan from joining other states in their litigation against the oil and gas industry over climate change.
Earlier this year, in June, Michigan asked the court to dismiss the Trump administration's lawsuit. However, the authority that made the request for the hearing in the Michigan district court remains unspecified.
The Trump administration believes that deferring the review of its case would cause hardship on the United States. The federal judge in Michigan will now consider the administration's request to block Michigan's participation in the climate change litigation against the oil and gas industry.
