UIDAI Waives Aadhaar Update Fee for Children Aged 7-15

In a significant move, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has waived off the Rs 125 fee for children aged 7 to 15 to update their Aadhaar records. The waiver, effective from November 2022, is valid for one year and covers the first and second Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBUs) for this age group.

The Aadhaar update process involves capturing fingerprints, iris scans, and a new photograph, ensuring biometric identity stays linked with existing demographic data. This update is crucial for children to access various services such as school admissions, entrance exams, scholarships, and Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) schemes. Previously, MBUs were free only if conducted within specific age windows, with a charge beyond those ranges. UIDAI has urged parents and guardians to utilise this waiver period to ensure uninterrupted access to services for their children.

The year-long waiver is part of UIDAI's broader pro-people initiative to simplify Aadhaar-linked access to government services for vulnerable segments. This move aims to ensure no child misses out on essential services due to financial constraints in updating their Aadhaar records.
