Velbert's City Center Facelift: 55 Properties Revitalized Since 2017

Velbert's city center is undergoing a facelift, with 55 properties already revitalized since 2017. The 'City Renewal Area City Center' program, funded by federal, state, and local funds, is transforming the core area around Friedrichstraße and the pedestrian zone, including municipal buildings like the Nikolaus-Ehlen-Gymnasium.

The facade and surroundings program offers financial subsidies of up to €40 per square meter for attractive real estate facade and outdoor area designs. Recent examples include buildings at Friedrichstraße 135 and 160, which received new facade paint in 2025. Katrin Neumann from the department of urban renewal and monument protection emphasizes the importance of modernized facades for enhancing the cityscape and strengthening the city center.

The program supports measures that contribute to a friendly and lively appearance of the city center. Numerous properties in streets such as Offerstraße, Blumenstraße, Grünstraße, Sternbergstraße, Nedderstraße, Oststraße, and Bahnhofstraße have benefited from the funding.

Property owners in the funding area are invited to contact the city of Velbert for more information on how to apply. Further details on the funding guidelines, application procedure, and design can be found online under 'Facade program Velbert-Middle'.
