Venture Global Kicks Off LNG Production at Louisiana's Plaquemines Plant
Venture Global has inaugurated LNG production at its new Plaquemines plant in Louisiana. The first tanker, Venture Bayou, has docked at the terminal, marking the start of cargo exports.
The Plaquemines plant boasts an annual capacity of 20 million metric tons, nearly quadrupling the USA's 2023 LNG imports. Venture Global aims to expand its export capacity to a staggering 100 million metric tons per year, surpassing entire countries' production.
The US, now the world's largest LNG exporter since 2022, will significantly boost its capacity by 2028, with projects like Plaquemines leading the way. The plant's startup aligns with the new US administration's focus on American energy dominance.
Venture Global plans a substantial IPO this year, potentially raising between $3 and $4 billion. The company's enterprise value stands at an estimated $100 billion, including debt financing. Its IPO in 2025 was one of the largest in the US market, raising significant capital.
Venture Global's Plaquemines plant has begun LNG production, with the first tanker preparing for the initial cargo. The plant's significant capacity and the US's growing LNG exports underscore the country's energy dominance. However, Venture Global faces challenges, with European energy companies like BP and Shell initiating arbitration proceedings over alleged delivery delays.
