Volkswagen: Cavallo aims for an end!

In a significant development, Volkswagen (VW) recently held a works council meeting where the highlight was the unveiling of the production version of the ID.2all to the employees. The new electric car, which will have its public premiere at the IAA, was unveiled under strict video and photography ban.

The meeting also marked the introduction of VW's new corporate strategy, dubbed "Boost 2030", under the banner of which the company aims to regain the lost trust of the workforce. The new strategy focuses on four main fields: electric mobility, software, autonomous driving, and digitalization.

The new target image of Volkswagen under "Boost 2030" emphasizes enthusiasm, attractiveness, and technological leadership. However, Daniela Cavallo, chairwoman of VW's works council, expressed concern about this target image, stating that it had often been criticized by employees. She argued that VW is gradually winding down and nothing will be left in the end if the current situation persists.

Cavallo's criticism was directed towards Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume, who holds a dual role as both VW and Porsche CEO. She demanded an end to this dual role, arguing that the VW CEO cannot be a "part-time boss" and must focus fully on VW. Cavallo has criticized this setup multiple times, especially during last year's labor disputes, and emphasized that VW needs to be the strong central point of the entire group again.

The works council meeting indicated a positive outlook for Volkswagen in 2024. Works council chair Daniela Cavallo praised the vehicle premiere as an important sign towards the workforce. She also stated that the board is expected to regain the lost trust of the workforce with the new corporate strategy.

In addition to the ID.2all, the employees also saw the new T-Roc, which had already been shown in the media. Volkswagen aims to appear again as a more uniform brand - a VW should feel like a VW again. The company also announced that it wants to distance itself from the "ID." naming.

The discussions about Blume's dual role have been brought back into focus by recent media reports. Cavallo expressed her clear criticism towards Blume, stating that he cannot be a part-time boss at VW. The works council expressed its hope that the board will take these concerns seriously and make the necessary changes to regain the trust of the workforce and ensure the long-term success of Volkswagen.
