Volvo and Polestar unveil integration of Abbey Road studio's unique sound mode in their vehicles

Volvo and Polestar have announced an exciting new feature for their electric SUV models, the Abbey Road Studios Mode, which transforms the vehicle cabin into an immersive listening environment inspired by the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

The feature is available in the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3, both equipped with the 25-speaker, 1,610-watt Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio System with Dolby Atmos. This state-of-the-art sound system replicates the rich acoustics and unique sonic signature of Abbey Road Studios, where iconic bands like The Beatles and Pink Floyd recorded.

The Abbey Road Studios Mode offers four custom audio presets, each crafted with help from Abbey Road engineers to evoke different studio-style soundscapes. These include the Intimate setting, which warms and details the sound with a vintage analog character, the Open setting, which immerses listeners in the natural richness of a live studio space, the Energized setting, which offers a dynamic feel of a live studio performance, and the Expansive setting, which provides an immersive studio ambience with resonance.

In addition to these presets, the Mode includes a Producer Mode, allowing users to fine-tune settings in real time. This feature allows drivers to adjust acoustic environments, stereo field width, tonal balance, and switch between retro or contemporary sonic profiles, effectively putting them in the role of a studio engineer from the driver’s seat.

The Abbey Road Studios Mode will be delivered as a free over-the-air software update for existing Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 models with the Bowers & Wilkins system. It will also be standard in forthcoming Volvo ES90 models.

By combining this advanced sound engineering with the quiet, well-insulated electric SUV cabin, the Abbey Road Studios Mode offers an elevated, highly customizable in-car audio experience that makes listeners feel as if they are inside the world-famous recording studio itself.

This integration is unique to Volvo and Polestar vehicles equipped with Bowers & Wilkins, reflecting a novel fusion of luxury automotive audio technology and classic music heritage. Volvo and Polestar have begun issuing the over-the-air update for their respective models, with Polestar's software upgrades for the Polestar 3 also including Stolen Vehicle Tracking and Smart Schedule for charging.
