WestMunich U5 line extension progress - "Milestone" update on construction status

Munich's U-Bahn Line U5 is currently undergoing an extension in the west, with significant milestones being achieved.

The planning and execution of the extension are the responsibility of München Stadtwerke (SWM), in cooperation with the Free State of Bayern and the Munich district, following a feasibility study commissioned in September 2023. The full extension to Pasing has been under construction since 2022 and is expected to be completed by 2034.

One of the latest developments is the completion of work at Gotthardstraße. Large construction machines have left the site, and the city can now complete the concrete pouring for the tunnel lid at this location. A total of 66,000 tons of concrete were used for the slot walls. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the applied lid construction method.

The slot walls, approximately 1.20 meters wide and around 30 meters deep, form the statically stable, waterproof outer shell of the U-Bahn structure. Work on the slot walls will start on the southern side of Josef-Felder-Straße in autumn.

Traffic in Josef-Felder-Straße will remain one-lane in both directions. To minimise disruption, a new roadway for traffic has been created over the temporary bridges built over the existing pedestrian and cycle path underpasses at Pasing station.

Despite the ongoing construction, passengers at Pasing station can rest assured that the underpasses will remain open at all times.

For those seeking more information about the U5 extension, the U-Bahn Info Center at Willibaldstraße 70 provides comprehensive details and experts are available there every Wednesday.

As the extension work continues, less dust and noise are expected as a result of the machines leaving the construction site at Gotthardstraße. Canal and borehole work for the outer walls of the new station on the southern side have been carried out at the knee. Boreholes for deep shafts are currently being set every 100 meters between Laimer Platz and the future U-Bahn stop "Baumschule Laim".

The U-Bahn Line U5 extension work in Munich's west is progressing, bringing the city one step closer to a more comprehensive public transportation network.
