What are the open and closed establishments during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in 2024?
Many retail places and workplaces will shut down on two holidays to allow workers to spend time with their loved ones during the festive season. This year, Christmas Eve falls on Tuesday, December 24, and Christmas falls on Wednesday, December 25.

Grocery stores
Albertsons Companies' stores, such as Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, ACME, Randalls, Shaw's, Vons, and Tom Thumb, will operate with fewer hours on Christmas Eve.
Several of these banner stores and pharmacies, including Jewel-Osco, Randalls, Shaw’s, and Tom Thumb, will close on Christmas Day. Another major grocery store, Kroger, will operate mostly on regular hours on Christmas Eve and close on Christmas Day. Besides Kroger, the company manages Ralphs, Dillons, Smith’s, King Soopers, Fry’s, QFC, City Market, Owen’s, Jay C, Pay Less, Baker’s, Gerbes, Harris Teeter, Pick ‘n Save, Metro Market, Mariano’s, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, and Foods Co.
Whole Foods, Aldi, and specialty grocer Trader Joe's will work with adjusted hours on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day.
Warehouse clubs Costco and Sam's Club will be closed on Christmas. Costco shuts down at 6 pm local time on Christmas Eve, while Sam’s Club closes at the same hour and remains closed on Christmas Day.
Retail outlets
Walmart shops will close at 6 pm local time on Christmas Eve, and all stores are closed on Christmas Day. Target will operate from 7 am until 8 pm local time on Christmas Eve but will be closed on Christmas.
Home Depot advises checking with your regional store, but locations will generally shut down at 5 pm on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day. Lowe's will operate as usual on Christmas Eve and will close on Christmas Day.
Department store Macy's will be open from 8 am to 7 pm local time on Christmas Eve and close on Christmas Day. Kohl's will be open from 7 am to 7 pm local time on Christmas Eve and close on Christmas. Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores will operate with reduced hours on Christmas Eve and close the following day.
Financial centers
Most banks will follow the Federal Reserve banking holidays, which means most teller services will be closed on Christmas Day. However, you can use mobile banking services and ATMs as usual.
Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and TD Bank will be closed on Christmas Day.
The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will not be open for trading on Christmas Day.
Pharmacies
CVS Pharmacy locations will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas, although with reduced hours. CVS recommends checking with your local store before visiting.
Rite Aid will open during regular business hours on Christmas Eve but will be closed on Christmas Day.
Walgreens will operate on Christmas Eve and will keep its 24-hour pharmacies open for 24 hours. On Christmas Day, Walgreens will operate during its typical hours, but most pharmacies will be closed except for 24-hour locations and specific others.
Postal services
The United States Postal Service won't be delivering or shipping mail on December 25.
On Christmas Eve, FedEx Express and FedEx Office will operate with modified hours. However, other services such as FedEx Ground and Custom Critical will operate as normal. On Christmas Day, every FedEx service except Custom Critical will be inaccessible.
